cPanel Website Hosting Description

For your info, it's good to be aware that most of the cPanel hosting offerings on the present web hosting market are generated by a quite inconsiderable business segment (as far as annual cash flow is concerned) called reseller hosting. Reseller website hosting is a kind of a small marketing niche, which furnishes a big amount of different web hosting brands, yet furnishing strictly the same services: mostly cPanel web hosting solutions. This is bad news for everybody. Why? Because of the fact that at least ninety eight percent of the hosting offerings on the entire web hosting market provide the very same service: cPanel. There's no difference at all. Even the cPanel-based hosting prices are identical. Quite similar. Leaving for those in need of a top web hosting service virtually no other website hosting platform/hosting CP option. Thus, there is simply one fact: out of more than 200k web hosting brands around the world, the non-cPanel based ones are less than 2 percent! Less than 2%, remark that one...

200k "hosting suppliers", all cPanel-based, yet diversely named

The hosting "variety" and the website hosting "offerings" Google presents to all of us come down to merely one and the very same thing: cPanel. Under hundreds of 1000's of different web hosting brand names. Suppose you are simply a normal chap who's not very well aware of (as the majority of us) with the website development processes and the web hosting platforms, which in fact power the individual domain names and websites. Are you prepared to make your hosting choice? Is there any web hosting variant you can choose? Sure there is, now there are more than two hundred thousand web hosting vendors out there. Officially. Then where is the problem? Here's where: more than ninety eight percent of these 200k+ different website hosting brand names around the world will give you absolutely the same cPanel web hosting Control Panel and platform, dubbed differently, with the same price tags! WOW! That's how big the variety on today's website hosting market is... Period.

The hosting LOTTO we are all part of

Simple arithmetic shows that to select a non-cPanel based web hosting service provider is a mammoth strike of luck. There is a less than 1 in 50 chance that a phenomenon like that will occur! Less than one in 50...

The upsides and downsides of the cPanel hosting solution

Let's not be pitiless with cPanel. After all, in the years 2001-2004 cPanel was trendy and presumably answered all website hosting industry prerequisites. In short, cPanel can do the job for you if you have just one domain to host. But, if you have more domain names...

Drawback Number 1: A dumb domain folder setup

If you have 2 or more domain names, however, be extremely attentive not to remove fully the add-on ones (that's how cPanel will refer to each new hosted domain name, which is not the default one: an add-on domain name). The files of the add-on domains are quite easy to delete on the server, because they all are set up into the root folder of the default domain name, which is the quite famous public_html folder. Each add-on domain is a folder located inside the folder of the default domain name. Like a sub-folder. Next time attempt not to delete the files of the add-on domains, please. Decide for yourself how excellent cPanel's domain name folder system is:

public_html (here my-default-domain.com is placed)
public_html/my-family (a folder part of my-default-domain.com)
public_html/my-second-domain.com (an add-on domain)
public_html/my-second-wife (a folder part of my-default-domain.com)
public_html/my-second-wife.net (an add-on domain name)
public_html/my-third-domain.com (an add-on domain name)
public_html/my-third-wife (a folder part of my-default-domain.com)
public_html/my-third-wife.net (an add-on domain name)
public_html/rebeka (a folder part of my-default-domain.com)
public_html/rebeka.my-third-wife.net (a sub-domain of an add-on domain)

Are you getting confused? We absolutely are!

Negative Aspect Number 2: The same mail folder setup

The mail folder structure on the hosting server is strictly the same as that of the domains... Repeating the very same mistake twice?!? The admin chums strongly increase their belief in God when coping with the mail folders on the electronic mail server, praying not to muck things up too irretrievably.

Disadvantage Number 3: A total lack of domain management options

Do we have to refer to the absolute deficiency of a modern domain administration menu - a location where you can: register/migrate/renew/park or manage domain names, change domains' Whois information, protect the Whois information, edit/set up nameservers (DNS) and DNS resource records? cPanel does not provide such a "contemporary" user interface at all. That's an immense problem. An unjustifiable one, we would like to add...

Weakness No.4: Many login locations (min two, maximum three)

How about the need for an additional login to use the invoice transaction, domain and technical support management software platform? That's apart from the cPanel account login credentials you've been already given by the cPanel-based hosting distributor. Occasionally, based on the billing transaction system (principally built for cPanel exclusively) the cPanel hosting vendor is availing of, the keen users can end up with 2 extra login places (1: the billing/domain administration GUI; 2: the trouble ticket support user interface), winding up with a total of three user login places (including cPanel).

Negative Sign Number 5: 120+ web hosting Control Panel areas to get to know... quickly

cPanel offers for your consideration 120+ menus inside the web hosting Control Panel. It's a marvelous idea to memorize each and every one of them. And you'd better grasp them promptly... That's very arrogant on cPanel's side.

With all due recognition, we have a rhetorical question for all cPanel hosting firms:

As far as we are aware of, it's not the year 2001, is it? Note that one too...
